Lorelei Medcalf is an artist, printmaker and teacher. She lectures at Adelaide College of the Arts and facilitates printmaking workshops for all ages.
Her art practice is focussed on intaglio and monotype printmaking. Her material exploration includes the construction of prints from reclaimed metal plates, collaging her discarded proofs, and drawing with tools made from found materials. She searches for new ways to make marks, patterns and line. She pushes metal plates through multiple states—a ‘battle’ with the matrix which goes beyond the end game of pulling a print. Her figurative artworks are often made in series or compiled into handmade books that explore human folly and psychological dilemmas. She has heard her work described as ‘dark’, but she believes there is always an element of humour or hope in her work.
Lorelei lives on the Fleurieu Peninsula of South Australia.
